I was born in Africa in a place called Rhodesia, now called Zimbabwe. My family immigrated to Australia when I was 11 years old due to the guerilla warfare that broke out in our country.
We came to Perth with only $1000 and by the time my parents paid rent for a commission flat and bought groceries, we only had $250 left. My father luckily got a job within one week.
I've come from a middle class family and my parents had to start all over again in their 30s which in the beginning was a real struggle. I had difficulty in relating to the other children at school because they couldn't understand what I had been through during those war years when I had some of my close family friends killed.
So as you can see, I've experienced hardships and know exactly what it feels like. This had a profound effect on me as a young boy and I never ever wanted to experience those feelings again. This led to a lifelong education in making, saving and investing my money.
When I was 21 years old, I bought my first investment property. It cost me $36,000 and when I sold it, I just about doubled my money in 6 years. I realised my first mistake though - don't sell and always hold on for the long term if you can. That property would now be worth over $300,000 today.
From that point on, my wife and I have been investing in real estate and building our wealth and we now have a substantial property portfolio and enjoy the challenge of renovating, financing and expanding our property portfolio.
What I really enjoy about my business is helping clients obtain finance, and help realise and fulfill their goals to build their wealth over their lifetime. It brings a sense of meaning and purpose to my life and to date I have met many interesting people who have become my friends.
